Maestro's Pick: Hardcore UFOs by GbV
Why: Robert Pollard is a genius.  Prolific beyond comprehension.  His lo-fi production, replete with fuck-ups and all,  is unsettling during initial listens, but his world-class rock vocals, literary master lyrics and deceptively complex songwriting is classic GbV.  A true broke-the-mold rock act.

Honorable Mentions:
Time to Pretend by MGMT: fantastic album, produced by Dave Fridmann of Flaming Lips fame, gets this band's ideals right.
The Jessica Numbers by New Pornographers:  West coast Canadians with impeccable songcraft and orchestration.  Every album a fun listen.  Made Neko Case who she is.
