Volume 10: Rock and Roll Trivia 10

Kicks & Chicks - The Zipps
Koei - Boris
I'm Not Down - The Clash
A-Punk - Vampire Weekend
When You Were Young - The Killers
The Official Ironmen Rally Song - Guided By Voices
I Sweat - The Causey Way
Lust For Life - Girls
Way Out - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Acetone - Mudhoney
Do I do - Stevie Wonder
Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace - Cheap Trick
The Rat - Dead Confederate
Mr. Woman - Electric Six
You Can Hide Your Lover Forever - Comet Gain

The Maestro's Pick:  Acetone by Mudhoney
Why:  Mudhoney was one of those bands in the late 80s and early 90s that rolled with the Seattle scene, and rightly so.  Although they never peaked as high as the PJs or SG or Nirvana, they kicked WAY more ass and WERE the band in Seattle.  Listen to Super Fuzz Big Muff and you'll see them as the new version of MC5, hyped up on crank, ready to party, writing music that was as blistering as it was smart.  Mudhoney, along with The Melvins, were the tent poles that bands like PJ and SG and Nirvana were trying to impress.

Volume 9: Rock and Roll Trivia 10

Thinking about you - Radiohead
Fake Empire - The National
Blood On Our Hands - Death From Above 1979
Atlantic - Keane
What Makes You Run - The Possibilities
Untitled - Japanther
Here Comes the Sun / the Inner Light - The Beatles
Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin
Brain Burner - No Age
This Boy - Franz Ferdinand
Blackmail - The Runaways
Salute Your Solution - Raconteurs
13 - Devil Woman (Original B-Side) - HANOI ROCKS
Dixie Chicken - Little Feat
Bag It Up - Oasis

The Maestro's Pick:  Fake Empire by The National
Why:  I love this album.  It took several listens to get it, but this band is phenomenal, and the deep vocals and sometimes shitty, sometimes brilliant lyrics keep plenty to keep listening to.

Volume 8: Rock and Roll Trivia 10

Drugtown - This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb
Half the Man - Jamiroquai
Unpleasant - Meat Puppets
Killing Yourself To Live - Black Sabbath
Atomic Punk - Van Halen
Lunar sea - Camera Obscura
Three Seed - Silversun Pickups
For We Are The King Of The Boudoir - The Magnetic Fields
Teenage Lobotomy - The Ramones
Lover's Spit - Broken Social Scene
What'd I Say (Parts 1 & 2 ) - Ray Charles
Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands - Elliott Smith
Out On The Floor - Dobie Gray
Father To A Sister Of Thought - Pavement
I'm Bound To Pack It Up - The White Stripes

Rock Maestro's Pick:  SABBATH!!
Why:  Definitely my favorite Sabbath album, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.  These guys defined nearly every metal genre decades before the next generation could think it.  Truly a pioneering band, and in my opinion, the most influential band in music history.

Honorable Mention:  I do want to point out that iTunes RANDOMLY selected Broken Social Scene, Jack White (via Raconteurs and White Stripes) and Magnetic Fields on both volumes 7 and 8.  Weird.  Classic pre-celebrity status WS, and MF's best work, this song off 69 Love Songs.

Volume 7: Rock and Roll Trivia 10

Planet Queen - T. Rex
Jesus Saves, I Spend - St. Vincent
Return To Me - Sparklehorse
Crystal Gypsy - Sebadoh
You Don't Understand Me - The Raconteurs
Mr. Pharmacist - The Other Half
Girl Lawyer - Mitch Fatel
Tokyo A-Go-Go - The Magnetic Fields
Lust For Life - Iggy Pop
Man Ray - The Futureheads
The Wanderer - Del Shannon
The Hazards Of Love 4 (The Drowned) - The Decemberists
Move On Up - Curtis Mayfield
Biff! Bang! Pow! - The Creation
Almost Crimes (Radio Kills Remix) - Broken Social Scene

Rock Maestro's Pick:  This is a toughy.  Represented here are some of my favorites.  So let's do this one differently.

1.  Sparklehorse.  Goodmorningspider is one of my top 5 albums of all time.  Can not recommend this slab o wax enough.  This track is off his fourth album.
2.  Broken Social Scene.  You Forgot it in People is one of my top 5s of all time as well.  I'll never forget  the image of moving into my first purchased house while I was captivated by this one.
3. St. Vincent.  What indie rocker doesn't have a crush on Annie Clark?  C'mon.  I'm human.
4.  The Futureheads.  Best The Jam-influenced band to come around in a while.  They came outta nowhere and their debut album is crazy good top to bottom.

Honorable Mentions:  T Rex and Iggy Pop, Curtis Mayfield in this category?  This is how good this comp is.
